I can’t write a book about reading books without talking deeply about libraries. Libraries are houses of reading—the closest things we have to sanctuaries devoted to the practice of reading. They are buildings dedicated to books. Librarians (at least the good ones) are champions of reading.
Most great writers have stories about their first times stepping into a library and how it changed their life. For there are few great readers or writers who don’t have any great encounters with a library or two.
I Love Libraries is an online initiative from the American Library Association (ALA). They’ve got book recommendations, resources for book clubs, and an annual I Love My Librarian award that recognizes the best local librarians around the country.
