A litocracy would be a government run by those who can read. This is only a theory, because as far as I can tell, there has never been a political litocracy in human history. We’ve had autocracies, plutocracies, and theocracies. But the nerds obsessed with books have been far more interested in bureaucracy and trivia than seizing power from the guy driving a tank.

That’s not to say the more powerful political figures are well-read. But they gain their influence more based on relationships, wealth, and charisma more so than their literary prowess. Some politicians read a lot (and some don’t), but that’s never been the basis for their political power.

That said, I’d like to imagine that a litocracy would be the ideal government system. Our politicians would be much less boisterous and much more intelligent. They’d spend more time educating themselves rather than trying to grow their egos. And a much higher percentage of the tax dollars would go towards buying books instead of those tanks.
