There are surprisingly few major conferences dedicated just to reading. Most of these conferences are local and based around reading education. But there are still a few larger conferences that focus specifically on the art of reading.
- Literacy Conference: Hosted annually by the Reading Recovery Council of North America. Just like any other conference, this is a collection of vendors, speakers, and workshops—all around the topic of reading and reading education.
- **Why Reading Matters Conference: An annual American conference, Why Reading Matters brings together “educators, non-profit administrators, librarians, academics, publishing professionals, writers, and literary activists” in the unifying love of reading.**
- READing Conference: A smaller reading education conference hosted annually by the Colorado Department of Education.
- ReaderCon: A science fiction conference, but without the costumes, art, or media. Instead, ReaderCon focuses almost exclusively on the written word. Also features a huge book store and appearances by famous sci-fi authors.
- American Reading Forum: This is a nonprofit organization that gathers people interested in literacy education. They get together annually to discuss best practices in teaching reading and promote publishing. They even hand out a few awards for community service and graduate studies in the field of reading.
